Police Services for the City of Lake Forest are provided by contract with the Orange County Sheriff's Department (O.C.S.D.). The Sheriff's Department is responsible for providing the protection of citizens, the enforcement of laws, and crime prevention. Law enforcement services include patrol, traffic enforcement, accident analysis and investigation, parking enforcement, general and special investigations, and the Community Support Unit. Police Services also provides a variety of Community Policing programs for the public, including Crime Prevention, Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch and other community awareness programs.
The Chief of Police Services is the department head for Public Safety and acts as the on-site liaison who maintains daily contact with the residents, City employees and City officials. The Chief of Police Services uses statistical information to make assessments of crime trends, traffic issues and to identify specific areas of concern to the City. During significant events or emergency situations, he will provide necessary information to City officials, as well as formulate a course of action to protect the citizens and the City's interests. He will take command of police personnel during any local emergency or natural disaster within the City. He also attends City Council meetings, and facilitates open lines of communications between the City, the community and business members.
