Water Quality

Water Quality Project

Do you know the difference between the sewer system and the storm drain system?   Unlike the sewer system, water in the stormdrain system is NOT treated before it heads into the ocean.

The storm drain system is designed to prevent rainfall from flooding our street, but unfortunately, rain is not the only thing that enters the storm drains.  Stormwater runoff (rain) and urban runoff (water from hoses or sprinklers) carry litter, lawn clippings, motor oil and other pollutants into the storm drain where they flow untreated to the ocean.  By keeping these pollutants off our sidewalks and streets, you can help protect the water quality in our creeks, rivers, bays and ocean.
