Vote Centers - election 2020

On February 26, 2019, the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to change the County’s voting system by eliminating precinct polling locations, replacing them with Vote Centers, and automatically sending every registered voter a mail ballot beginning in 2020. The agenda item can be found here, but in summary, the action (Attachment C) approved the implementation of the Voter’s Choice Act (Senate Bill 450) for future elections in Orange County through the use of 188 vote center locations throughout Orange County (38 sites, operating for 11 days and 150 sites, operating for 4 days).

At Vote Centers, casting a ballot in Orange County will be easier and more convenient for voters:

  • Every voter will receive a vote-by-mail ballot
  • Every voter will be able to vote at any location in Orange County
  • The option to vote in-person for an 11-day period, including weekends

The move to Vote Centers will end our traditional polling place program as the new voting model allows us to focus on large community-based city-owned sites, overall reducing the number of non-public facilities needed.

The next Primary Election is March 3, 2020.   The City of Lake Forest's next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

The Orange County Registrar of Voters (ROV) Office will be hosting various Community Workshops to discuss the upcoming transition to Vote Center.

Vote Centers will be in operation starting with the March 2020 Primary Election.  We would like to encourage residents to learn all about the benefits and services that a Vote Center will offer.
