City Anniversary Celebration, Tree Lighting Set for December 4

Ready to party like it's 1991? The City of Lake Forest is hosting its 1991-themed birthday party from 2 p.m. to 5:30 pm, Saturday, December 4, at the Civic Center.

Voters in 1991 overwhelmingly approved cityhood for Lake Forest, by a vote of 5,785 “yes” to 2,682 “no.” Voters also selected “Lake Forest” over “El Toro” for the name of the new City, albeit in a closer vote, 4,090 to 3,920.

The City’s 30th birthday is a family-friendly event with entertainment and food for all. A variety of food vendors will be present to satisfy all appetites. For the adults, complement your meal with a drink from the beer and wine gardens. Kids can spend their time playing games, making crafts, bungee jumping, exploring inflatables, and even rock climbing.

Don’t forget to check out the slideshow and photo gallery. All photos submitted during the 30th-anniversary photo contest will be displayed. Come see how much Lake Forest has transformed!

Curious how we’ve changed so much? Some of Lake Forest’s early leaders will gather for a chat about the decisions that made the City what it is today.

To finish off a night of family fun and great food, the event will end with our first tree-lighting ceremony and a performance by the El Toro High School choir.

The City of Lake Forest’s 30th birthday will be a memorable day to celebrate as a community, share memories, and reflect on how far we’ve come.
